Far
worse than not including a fireplace, chimney, furnace, or stove in your home
is not using the right chimney pipe, chimney liner, chimney cap, or stove pipe
to go with them. It would be better for
your home not to have a fireplace than to have one with improper chimney pipes,
chimney liners, or chimney caps installed (or none at all). If you’re installing a stove without
high-quality stove pipe, you might as well not even bother.
The
lesson is this: these appliances without
the protection of stove pipes, chimney pipes, chimney liners, and chimney caps
are not an investment, but a liability.
Yes fireplaces, stoves, and furnaces are valuable additions to a home,
but if they deteriorate rapidly they make for higher costs and more repairs in
the long run rather than decreasing home expenses. If you think you can afford a fireplace, stove,
or furnace, but can’t afford chimney pipes, chimney liners, chimney caps, or
stove pipes, the reality is that you can’t afford either.
