Creative solution from the catholic church

"Excommunication is valid for the women, the doctors and researchers who destroy embryos."

That is, excommunication for scientist working with stem cells. It's just a cardinal blathering, not official vat policy. Why are these guys (not the scientists, you know) still around? I mean, 2000 years, isn't that enough? I blame the weak caesars at the end of the Roman Empire. Pace all the friendly, kind catholics I know.
