Steve Reich

There's a short but fairly interesting piece on the composer Steve Reich in The Guardian.

Unpleasant likeness

Billbingo_1

Bill Gates as a young man driving too fast in the desert, and swedish men's magazine photographer Bingo Rimér. Only an accident of fashion separates them.

Absinthe

Since I have few original things to say right now I'm going to offer a link to an article about the science of absinthe instead.

If you need some you should probably go to Absinthe Online.

Sorry...

Sorry for the lack of posting recently. I'm too tired to do anytning, mostly. I've developed shiny blue-black bags below the eyes. It's not nice, but it will pass.
In the meantime I'm mostly fooling around with my cameras, or sleeping on the couch, or visualizing a complete transfer to english for Trams!
Also, I cut myself shaving. What a friday.

He's actually about to yawn. I did the Right Thing today and bought a Nikon D50. I got a good deal. Vacation in Dublin coming up in december. Many cats to catch on film. (Or lightsensor.)

It's a dreamy camera. Now I just need a 20 /1.4 - et cetera. Consumerism makes fools of us all.

Modifying the Sonic Impact T-Amp

I bought a Sonic Impact T-Amp on eBay. It sounds great, audiophile-great, (I can hardly judge that by myself, but others told me so) but has poor connectors and a sad-looking plastic enclosure. So I used the experts of the internet to extract it, tweak it and put it in a new box.

It took about an evenings work and wasn't difficult at all. Now it sounds simply fantastic. The total cost was about the same as for my fifteen year old Proton, but the sound is much better. I also had the pleasure of a fun project!

Rausing buys Granta

Oh, please, don't let this be bad news. Sigrid Rausing, incredibily wealthy representative of the carton-empire, has bought Granta.
She is quoted in The Guardian:

"I intend to ensure both have the human and financial resources to flourish."

That sounds hopeful. Or omnious.

Tip: literary magazines are poor material for milk cartons.

Iain Sinclair in the TLS

The Times Literary Supplement has a review of Iain Sinclairs Edge of the Orizon.

[Update: There is also a review in The Guardian, of course.]

By the way, it looks like the TLS might be at risk. Who ever expected huge profits from a literary magazine? That's where capitalism really breaks down. (The article might require a free registration.)

My brother is a living work of art

He has completed his fourth session with the East Street studio in Stockholm. The result is scarily impressive, the most beautiful tattoo I've seen "in the flesh"!
